British East/Southeast Asian Women in Film and TV (2021)

  • Talk Show
  • 2h 23m

This forum addresses female professionals’ strategic evocation of women’s issues as a way of expanding film art and culture beyond the white-male-dominated industry and patriarchal society. It aims to open up valuable insights into the public concerns of British East/Southeast female struggles and contributions to the UK’s film culture. Their artworks and practices challenge a conventional understanding of monolithic ‘Chinese’ culture constructed by the Western media. In order to explore the roles of British East/Southeast women in the screen industry, this forum facilitates discussions between female filmmakers, actors, producers, screenwriters, curators, academics, and entrepreneurs in addressing specific issues involving race, gender, sexuality, and aesthetics. It hopes to build network connections and collaborations between film female filmmakers and professionals in the UK.
